Steering wheel drumming is a tradition going back as far as the first radios in cars. There is something indescribably satisfying about drumming along to classic Van Halen, Queen, or AC/DC on a steering wheel on a long drive. A new product “Re-Inventing The Wheel” or RITW wants to take steering wheel drumming to the next level by putting a full drum kit at your fingertips.
RITW is a steering wheel cover that has 8 “smack areas” which correspond with a bass drum, snare, tom, high hat, ride cymbal, crash cymbal, splash cymbal, and cowbell. Using an FM transmitter, your steering wheel drumming will play through your car speakers over top of any music in your music library. The creators of the RITW have even set up a website where users can upload and share custom drum sounds or other sound effects including “Chewbacca,” “Goat,” and “Chicken.”
The creators of the RITW have set up a Kickstarter campaign to finish funding the project, and supporters who pledge $149 or more will get a RITW wheel cover and the iPhone app.
