Consumer Reports: Best Cars of 2013

In April, Consumer Reports magazine will publish their Best & Worst Cars for 2013, but this week, they gave a sneak preview of their top picks.

The April issue will have a rundown of the top car brands, the best and worst used cars, and the most reliable used cars, but for now, they have only released the top cars in each individual category. The winners are as follows:

Midsized sedan – Honda Accord

Sports car – Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ
Budget car – Hyundai Elantra
Green car – Toyota Prius
Compact car – Subaru Impreza
Luxury car – Audi A6
Small SUV – Honda CR-V
Midsized SUV – Toyota Highlander
Sports sedan – BMW 328i
Minivan – Honda Odyssey

The vehicles were chosen based on a road test, the reliability rating, and government or insurance industry crash and rollover tests. All vehicles had to be either the best in all categories, or if there was not a winner in every category, it needed to place near the top.
